Second-place finish at Nuttycombe Invite earns Caron conference honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State cross country’s Florence Caron earned Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for her performance at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invite, the conference announced Wednesday.

The senior put on an eye-opening performance at one of the most highly competitive regular season college cross country races in the nation. She posted a 20:03.2 to finish second overall at the 2024 Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, leading the Nittany Lion women’s team to a tenth-place result. Thanks to Caron’s dominant showing, the Penn State women jumped up to No. 21 in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll this week.

The Quebec native earns the second Big Ten weekly award of her career, as she was the last Nittany Lion to earn Big Ten Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, doing so on April 17 this past season. She becomes the first member of the Penn State women’s team to win Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week since Julia Paternain on September 12, 2018.

Caron and the Nittany Lions will return to compete in-state as they travel down the road to Lehigh to run in the annual Paul Short Invitational on October 5. The men’s gold race begins at 11 a.m. while the women’s gold race will start at 11:45.
