BOSTON – The Penn State women’s ice hockey team received a pair of weekly awards as Atlantic Hockey America announced on Monday afternoon. Freshman Grace Outwater was named AHA Forward of the Week while junior Katie DeSa was named AHA Goaltender of the Week.
Outwater picks up her first career AHA weekly honor after she scored her first collegiate goals in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday. The goals were also the first collegiate points of her Penn State career. Outwater also accomplished her first multi-goal game of her career. She tallied the most goals of any Penn State player this week and led all freshman in points and goals. On the year, she leads all Penn State rookies in points, goals and assists with two goals and three assists for five points. She is also the first Nittany Lion freshman to win a weekly award this year.
Getting the start in both games, DeSa only allowed one goal the entire series. She recorded her first shutout win of the season and fifth of her career on Friday, Oct. 18 by stopping all 15 shots she faced which led to a 2-0 victory. DeSa then stopped 12-of-13 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win. On the season, the Pawcatuck, Conn. native currently holds a 5-2-0 record with a GAA of 1.58 and save percentage of .911. This is DeSa's second AHA Goaltender of the Week honor this season and third of her career.
Penn State returns to action on Friday, October 25 when they face Cornell in the opening round of the 2024 Ice Breaker Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Puck-drop is set for 12 p.m.
