STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Penn State swimming and diving’s Cooper Morley was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The junior tallied three relay team wins and two individual wins this past weekend versus Pittsburgh.
Morley shined in his performance versus Pittsburgh recording top finishes in all six events, five of them being first place finishes. Individually, Morley won first in the 100 Fly and the 100 Back, recording times of 47.48 and 47.19 respectively.
As a team, Morley competed in four relay events for the Nittany Lions. Notably, he was a part of the winning 400 Medley Relay (3:11.59), 200 Medley Relay (1:27.20) and 400 Free Relay (2:58.69) teams. He also added a second-place win in the 200 Free Relay (1:20.89), just 0.4 seconds behind the first-place squad.
This award is the New Zealand native’s second of his career, being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in 2023. Looking ahead, Morley hopes to continue the success of his sophomore year where he qualified for both the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
The Nittany Lions are hitting the road next week to face Ohio State on November 8 at 3 p.m., then returning to Columbus shortly after for the Ohio State Invitational November 21-23.
