VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Freshman Jiratchaya Jiratthitinun (Bangkok, Thailand) paced the Penn State women's golf team at the Evie Odom Invitational this weekend finishing T-11 at 3-over, 213, as the Nittany Lions placed 10th in the 14-team field.
The hosts, College of Charleston, were the lone squad under par for the week to secure the championship at 2-under, 838, while Furman (15-over), Sacramento State (20-over), Miami (21-over) and Notre Dame (27-over) round out the top-5.
Yaya had 10 birdies on the weekend opening with a pair of even-par rounds of 70 prior to her final round 3-over, 73, on Sunday.
Penn State ran into some tough luck midway through the final round as senior Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) had to withdraw due to sickness. Nienhaus opened the weekend with a 1-under, 69, on Friday and was T-11 entering Sunday before her withdrawl.
Senior Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) climbed seven spots on the leaderboard following a final round 1-over, 71, it was her second-straight 71 after opening with a 6-over, 76, on Friday. Cox finished the week T-26 at 8-over, 218.
Freshman Lauren Thompstone (Paris, France) opened with a pair of 75’s before slipping a bit on Sunday with a 10-over, 80, to finish the week T-65.
Senior Jami Morris (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) opened and closed with a 76 with an 84 sandwiched between to conclude her week in 75th position. While playing as an individual, freshman Gwedolyn Powell (Madison Township, Pa.) had her best round on Saturday with a 3-over, 73, and finished the week T-67 at 21-over.
