Penn State Fencing Teams Compete at Penn Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's and women's fencing teams competed Saturday at the Penn Invitational in Philadelphia.  The Nittany Lion men’s team went 2-2 as did the Nittany Lion women’s team. 

Penn State vs. North Carolina- Penn State's fencing teams showcased their skills in a thrilling match against North Carolina. The women's team had a strong performance with victories in both foil (5-4) and saber (5-4) but lost the epee round 6-3, dropping the dual 14-13. The men's team also saw success in foil (5-4) but faced tough competition in saber (4-5) and epee (2-7) and fell 16-11. 

Penn State vs. LIU- Penn State notched a commanding win against LIU. The women's team rolled to a 19-8 win as it dominated in foil (6-3) and saber (9-0) but suffered a close defeat in epee (4-5). The men's team delivered a clean sweep in foil (9-0), a strong win in saber (8-1), and a winning performance in epee (6-3). Penn State emerged victorious with an overall score of 19-8. 

Penn State vs. Yale- In the match against Yale, Penn State's women's team posted a win in saber (8-1) but fell in foil (2-7) and epee (3-6) to drop a close 14-13 dual. The men's team dropped a 16-11 dual to Yale, winning in foil (6-3) and falling in epee (3-6) and saber (2-7) 

Penn State vs. Cleveland State- Penn State posted a decisive victory over Cleveland State. The women’s team posted a win in foil (8-1) and dropped a tough series in epee (4-5) before rolling to a shutout in saber (9-0) to post a 21-6 win. The men won 22-5 with wins in foil (9-0), epee (5-4) and saber (8-1). 

Following this weekend’s action, Penn State fencers will take part in the NAC event in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday through Sunday, Dec. 6-8.
