UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; – Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Mitchell Mesenbrink earned Big Ten weekly honors for the week ending Nov. 24, 2024. Mesenbrink has been named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, the first weekly award for Penn State this season.
Mesenbrink rolled to the 2024 Black Knight Invitational title at 165 pounds, going 4-0, all by technical fall. Two of his wins were over ranked opponents and two were Big Ten foes. Mesenbrink posted techs over Carter Baer of Binghamton, 18-3 (5:37); Cam Adams of Michigan State, 18-1 (4:01), No. 32 Tony White of Rutgers, 19-4 (5:46) and No. 14 Gunner Filipowicz of Army in the finals, 17-2 (4:50). Mesenbrink was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler for his performance. He is now 5-0 on the year, all tech falls.
Penn State is 1-0 in dual meets this season. The Nittany Lions return to action on Sunday, Dec. 8, with a dual meet at Lehigh. The action in Bethlehem begins at 2 p.m. All rankings listed are InterMat/InterMat Team TPI.
