Penn State Drops Road Game at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Penn State men's basketball team suffered a cold-shooting afternoon in a 68-49 road loss at Nebraska Saturday afternoon.
 
Zach Hicks led the Nittany Lions with 13 points and six rebounds, while Ace Baldwin Jr. tallied 10 points and five steals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Huskers used a 12-2 streak over a five-minute stretch to get out to an early 12-6 lead just over eight minutes into the game.
  • A pair of 3-pointers from Zach Hicks and D'Marco Dunn fueled an 8-2 Nittany Lion response as Penn State knotted the score at 14-14 with 9:04 left in the first half.
  • The score was tied at 18 three minutes later, but Penn State went cold in the final six minutes of the opening term as the Nittany Lions were just one for their final seven and Nebraska was able to take a 28-22 edge into halftime.
  • The Huskers scored 10 of the second half's first 12 points to pull ahead 38-24 with 16:43 to play.
  • Back-to-back baskets from Ace Baldwin Jr. and Nick Kern Jr. snapped the Nebraska streak and pulled Penn State within 10 at 38-28 a minute later, but it would be as close as Penn State would get the rest of the way as Nebraska pulled away for the 68-49 win.  

 
GAME NOTES

  • Zach Hicks scored in double figures for the fifth-straight game, finishing with team-best marks of 13 points and six rebounds.
  • Ace Baldwin Jr. notched his 21st double-digit scoring game of the season and finished with 10 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists.
  • Penn State finished the game shooting 33.3 percent (18-54) from the field and 21.7 percent (5-23) from 3-point range.
  • The Nittany Lion defense limited the Huskers to a 44.3 percent (27-61) clip from the field and 19 percent (4-21) mark from downtown.
