UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State field hockey team will open up the 2024 season at home against Virginia on the last weekend in August and close out the regular season at home against Maryland on the first weekend in November. Second year head coach Lisa Bervinchak Love's team will play eight times in Happy Valley and nine times on the road as it prepares for a post-season run that begins with the 2024 Big Ten Tournament at Maryland on Nov. 7-10.
The Nittany Lions welcome the Cavaliers of Virginia to Penn State for the season opener on Friday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m. Two days later, Penn State hosts Syracuse on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 12 p.m. Penn State hits the road the next weekend, visiting St. Joseph's on Friday, Sept. 6, for a 3 p.m. contest and Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 12 p.m. The Nittany Lions visit Kent State on Friday, Sept. 13, for a 3 p.m. game before returning to State College for a 12 p.m. home game against Princeton on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 12 p.m. The next weekend, the Nittany Lions visit Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.
Penn State opens up Big Ten action by hosting the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. Penn State hosts Lafayette two days later on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. The Lions begin a string of three straight Big Ten road games by heading to Iowa on Friday, Oct. 4, for a 6 p.m. (Eastern) game and trekking to Northwestern on Sunday, Oct. 6, for a 1 p.m. (Eastern) contest. The next weekend, Penn State is at Ohio State on Friday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. and at Ohio University on Sunday, Oct. 15, for a 12 p.m. non-conference game.
The Nittany Lions host Michigan on Friday, Oct. 18, in a 4 p.m. contest and Michigan State on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 12 p.m. Penn State then heads to Rutgers for its final Big Ten regular season road game, battling the Scarlet Knights on Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J. Penn State closes out the regular season and its home slate the next weekend, hosting Maryland on Friday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m.
The 2024 Big Ten Tournament will take place on Nov. 7-10 and will be hosted by Maryland in College Park, Md. The regular season champion is declared Big Ten Champion in field hockey, but the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Champion will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship tournament. The NCAA's post-season schedule begins the following weekend, Nov. 15-17, with the first round and quarterfinals at on-campus sites. The 2024 NCAA Championship's final weekend, featuring the national semifinals and the NCAA title game, will take place on Nov. 22-24 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
