UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track & field’s Hayley Kitching was named the Big Ten Women’s Track Athlete of the Week following her historic outing at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 18, the conference announced Wednesday.
Kitching earns Penn State’s third conference weekly award of the 2024-25 season, and its first of the new year. The middle-distance superstar laid down a 2:39.86 1,000-meter run to win the event at the Nittany Lion Challenge. The mark stands as the third-fastest in NCAA history on a 200-meter track. Penn State’s Danae Rivers still holds the collegiate record on a regulation track with a 2:38.58, so Kitching’s mark slots in as No. 2 on the Nittany Lions’ all-time performance list.
The junior also came back to run a leg of Penn State’s 4x400-meter relay following her historic outing in the 1,000. The team ran a 3:40.35, the 28th-best mark in the NCAA this year.
