MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – McKenna Walsh punched the second goal of her Penn State career as the No. 8 Penn State women’s ice hockey team (22-4-1, 13-0-0 AHA) defeated Lindenwood (3-20-2, 2-10-1 AHA), 3-1 on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 16:24 left in the first period, the Nittany Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Brianna Brooks ripped a shot from the slot which got tipped into the net by McKenna Walsh while she was in front of the Lindenwood netminder.
- Penn State added to their lead off a power-play goal by Katelyn Roberts in the second period as she launched a shot passed the Lindenwood goalie from the bottom left circle off a feed by Brianna Brooks with 7:58 left in the frame to put Penn State ahead 2-0.
- Lindenwood opened the third period with a goal by Olivia Grabianowski as Josey Dunne fed her a pass from the left side. Grabianowski then flew the puck past the Penn State goalie with 18:57 left in the frame to narrow the Penn State lead to 2-1.
- The Nittany Lions responded later in the period as Stella Retrum pushed the puck past Lindenwood’s goalie off a rebound to put Penn State ahead 3-1 with 12:37 left in the third period.
GOALTENDERS
- Junior goalie Katie DeSa tallied 26 saves on the day. Her record improves to 19-4-0 on the year. DeSa sits second in program history for most wins by a goalie in a single season.
- Lindenwood goalie Anna LaRose tallied 37 saves on 40 shots attempted. Her record drops to 1-13-0 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Penn State captured their ninth straight win of the season.
- With her two assists, Janecke sits one point away from becoming the career points leader in Penn State hockey history (men’s and women’s combined).
- Walsh scored her first goal since October 26, 2024, which came against Stonehill.
- Penn State has defeated Lindenwood 14 straight times since 2021.
- Seven Nittany Lion players registered a point.
- Roberts has now tallied a goal in four of her last five games.
