BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America named Penn State women’s ice hockey goalie Katie DeSa Goaltender of the Week and junior Tessa Janecke Forward of the Week on Monday afternoon.
DeSa picked up another pair of wins in net this week for the Nittany Lions. She captured her seventh shutout win of the season, which is tied for second most in a single season in program history. In the series opener against Lindenwood, she conceded only one goal, then blanked them in game two. She stopped 46 shots in the series and tallied a save percentage of .979.
With a 20-4-0 record this season, DeSa sits second in program history for most wins by a goalie in a single season. The Pawcatuck, Conn. native sits second in the nation in wins (20), third in goals against average (1.33) and eighth in save percentage of .938. This is DeSa’s seventh weekly honor of the year and 10th weekly honor of her career.
Janecke had a four-point weekend as she recorded one goal and three assists in the series at Lindenwood. She tallied multiple points in both games with a two-assist outing in Friday's game and a one goal, one assist showing on Saturday.
Janecke's goal on Saturday marked her as the Penn State hockey (men's and women's) all-time leader in career points with 141. The Orangeville, Ill. native sits seventh in the nation in points this season with 42 on 18 goals and 24 assists.
This season, the junior has scored multiple points in 13 games. She also leads the AHA in nine statistical categories, including goals and assists. This is Janecke’s third weekly honor this season and seventh of her career.
Penn State returns to action on Friday, January 31 when they begin a two-game series at Robert Morris. The puck-drops at 3 p.m.
