UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 14 Penn State men’s track & field’s Ajani Dwyer was named the Big Ten Men’s Freshman Athlete of the Week following his sensational performance at the Penn 10 Elite meet on Saturday, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Dwyer’s honor is his second Big Ten weekly award of his freshman campaign and is Penn State’s fourth overall this year. The New Jersey native dropped a 20.65 in his 200-meter opener on Saturday, the fifth-fastest qualifying mark in the NCAA this season and tops among freshmen in the nation. Dwyer’s mark also ranks third in Penn State history and through three meets, he now owns top-three marks in school history in both the 60 and 200-meter dash events.
The standout newcomer’s fourth-ranked 60-meter and fifth-ranked 200-meter dash marks in Division I have Penn State’s men’s team positioned at No. 14 in the country, its highest national ranking since it was 14th in the 2019 preseason rankings.
