MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Lyndie Lobdell became the all-time career points leader among defensemen at Penn State as the No. 8 Penn State women’s ice hockey team (24-4-1, 15-0-0 AHA) shutout Robert Morris (8-18-3, 2-11-2 AHA) 5-0 on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State opened the scoring with a goal by Stella Retrum in the slot off a feed from Alyssa Machado to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead with 17:51 left in the first period.
- With 5:04 remaining in the period, Katelyn Roberts launched a shot for a goal in the slot off an assist by Tessa Janecke to put the Nittany Lions ahead 2-0.
- In the second period, Roberts could toe-drag her way past the Colonials’ goalie and tap the puck into the net to put Penn State ahead 3-0 with 10:26 left in the frame.
- Lyndie Lobdell sent a long pass which was received by McKenna Walsh in the Penn State offensive zone, and she then ripped a goal into the top corner of the net to give Penn State a 4-0 lead with 9:26 left in the third period.
- Janecke closed the game with a goal from the right circle coming with 4:37 left in the third period to secure the 4-0 victory over Robert Morris.
GOALTENDERS
- Junior goalie Katie DeSa tallied 22 saves on the day. Her record improves to 21-4-0 on the year. DeSa sits second in program history for most wins by a goalie in a single season. The Pawcatuck, Conn. native now has eight shutout wins on the year which is second most in a single season in program history.
- Robert Morris goalie Maggie Hatch tallied 46 saves on 51 shots attempted through. Her record drops to 7-13-2 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Penn State captured their 11th straight win of the season.
- With her assist this afternoon, Lobdell now becomes the all-time career points leader in Penn State women’s hockey history among defensemen with 81.
- Roberts tallied her first multi-goal and three-point game of the year as she had two goals and one assist on the day.
- Penn State has shutout Robert Morris in every game against them this season.
- Walsh tallied her second goal in the last three games.
- The Nittany Lions are a perfect 9-0-0 in January.
- Penn State is a perfect 15-0 in Atlantic Hockey America play, which is the only team in the country to hold a perfect record in conference play this season.
- 24 wins is the second highest amount of wins in a season the Nittany Lions have had in program history.
- Penn State out-shot the Colonials 51-22. The Nittany Lions last fired 51 shots on November 15, 2024, against Lindenwood.
