UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa - The Mountaineers traveled the country roads to Happy Valley as the Nittany Lions closed out their home slate, and celebrated their incredible senior class. The Blue and White dominated the competition, earning a 193-90 win to close out their regular season schedule.
In dominant fashion, Penn State swept the first twenty events, and concluded with only one individual event loss between the men’s and women’s competition, putting them in a prime position to come up with another weekend win.
Top Swims
Cooper Morley put the Nittany Lions on the board early with a first place finish in the 100 Back, with a time of 45.79.
The Blue and White boasted a podium sweep in the 100 Breast, as graduate Filipe Pinheiro earned gold with a personal best of 53.25, followed by Mariano Lazzerini a silver with a 53.85, and Toni Slavica a bronze with a 54.44.
The Breast duo battled it out once again in the 200 competition, Lazzerini finishing first with a 1:58.76, Pinheiro a close second with a 1:59.27.
Penn State added another 1-2 finish in the 100 Fly, with Matthew Bittner touching first with a career-best 46.57, followed by Alex Karahalis in second with a 47.03.
Eduardo Cisternas touched first in the 1000 Free with a 9:11.68 finish, followed by Jack Clancy in third with a 9:19.52.
The Blue and White tallied two podium finishes in the 200 Free, with freshman Rylan Anselm in first with a 1:37.48 earning a new career best, and Teddy Blake in third with a 1:39.79. Anselm touched first in the 500 Free with a 4:27.90 finish.
Victor Bagahna touched first in the 50 Free with a 19.88, followed by Tylor Kim in second with a 19.93. Kim followed with a victory in the 100 Free with a 43.13 finish.
Sean Honey added a first place finish in the 400 IM with a 3:51.39.
Sam Folger and Erik Bolang battled to the finish in the 200 Fly, Folger coming up with a win with a 1:48.25, followed closely by Bolang in second with a 1:48.48.
Cooper Morley tallied a first place finish in the 200 Back with a 1:44.76, trailed by Jack Harvey in second with a 1:45.18.
Relays
The Blue and White earned two scores in the 400 Free relay; the first place finishing relay landed with a 2:54.18, with contributions from Victor Bagahna, Cooper Morley, Toni Slavica and Tylor Kim.
The second place finishing 400 Free relay with efforts from Jack Harvey, Matthew Bittner, Sean Honey and Eduardo Cisternas posted a 2:57.27.
Diving
Hayden Elliott boasted a dominant first place finish in the 1 Meter competition with a 361.43 finish, followed by Danny McGaughey in third with a 270.90.
Elliott and McGaughey followed suit with a first and third finish in the 3 meter, Elliott taking first with a 349.50, and McGaughey in third with a 303.90.
