Dwyer Ties School Record, Places Sixth in 60m at USATF Indoor Championships

Dwyer’s 6.54 ties Traore for top 60m mark in school history

NEW YORK – No. 20 Penn State men’s track & field’s Ajani Dwyer placed sixth in the United States in the USATF Indoor 60-meter dash final on Sunday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The 18-year-old Nittany Lion freshman set the blocks against some of the nation’s top talent on Sunday afternoon in the USATF Indoor Championships. In the first preliminary heat, Dwyer shocked the crowd with a blazing 6.54 personal-best that tied Cheickna Traore for the top spot in Penn State school history. His mark was the top overall time across all three preliminary heats.

In the event final, Dwyer finished sixth in the nation, recording a 6.61 mark in his first taste USATF Indoor Championship competition.

Dwyer and the Nittany Lions are primed for collegiate postseason competition with the Big Ten Championships on the horizon. Penn State is slated to take on the new-look conference in track & field competition for the first time on Feb. 28 and March 1 in Indianapolis.
