Men’s Fencing Completes Day One of NCAA Fencing Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's and women's fencing teams have eight qualifiers competing at the NCAA Championships from March 20-23 at The Pennsylvania State University's Multi-Sport Facility. On the first day of action, the Nittany Lions had five fencers from the men’s team compete in rounds 1-3 of their respective weapons.

Arwen Borowiak competed in foil with Tingwei Xu and Mohammed Yassen in epee, Kamar Skeete and Neil Lilov in sabre.

Yasseen sits in third place after three rounds in the epee, going 10/15. Xu sits in 15th with a 7/15 mark. Arwen Boworiak, the lone competitor in foil, won 8/15 and is in 11th place.

In men’s sabre, Lilov sits in eighth place in epee as he won 9/15 bouts. Skeete won 5/15 and is currently in 18th place.

The men’s team has Penn State in sixth place early in the tournament, with three more days of competition remaining among both men and women fencers.

All fencers from the men’s team will continue fencing tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. with rounds four and five. Semifinals and championship bouts will begin at 1:30 p.m. In the Multi-sport Facility. These bouts will be aired on ESPN+.

 The women's team, with three qualifiers, will begin their NCAA run on Saturday at 9 a.m. with rounds 1-3 of epee. Women's foil will begin at 11 a.m. with sabre to conclude the day at 1:30 p.m. Rounds four and five will start Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with semifinals and finals at 1:30 p.m.
