Men’s Tennis falls to No. 20 Michigan

The Nittany Lions will host USC, UCLA, Mercyhurst next weekend

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Penn State men’s tennis team dropped its match to No. 20 Michigan. The Nittany Lions fought tough and had close matches, but they ultimately fell 4-0 to the Wolverines. 

 

DOUBLES 

At second doubles, David Lindsay and Nolan Ranger faced Alex Cairo and Will Cooksey but fell 6-2. Reiya Hattori and Shri Murugesan played on Court 3 but dropped their match in a close, 6-4, battle to Patorn Hanchaikul and Mert Oral. 

Loren Byers and Sam Bossem took on Gavin Young and Bjorn Swenson on Court 1. Their match was tied 6-6 when it went unfinished due to Michigan claiming the doubles point. 

 

SINGLES 

On Court 2, Schoeman dropped his match, 6-0, 6-2, to Swenson. Bossem played at third singles, but fell to Hanchaikul, 6-4, 6-1. At sixth singles, Ranger fell 6-1, 6-4 to Oral. 

 

At the top spot, Byers won the first set 7-6 and looked to tie up the second set against Cooksey. At the fourth spot, Hattori was tied with Nicholas Steiglehner, 4-6, 6-3. On Court 5, Lindsay nearly clinched his match against Cairo 7-6, 5-1. All three matchups went unfinished as Michigan had already clinched the match. 

 

UP NEXT 

The Nittany Lions will welcome new Big Ten opponents, USC and UCLA, along with non-conference Mercyhurst. The match against USC will be held on Friday, Apr. 4 at 4 p.m. The Sunday, Apr. 6 matches will feature a doubleheader, starting with UCLA at 11 a.m. and closing with Mercyhurst at 4 p.m. All matches will be held at the Sarni Tennis Center or Indoor Tennis Center. 

 

The match against USC on Friday will feature a pizza giveaway to fans, and the match against UCLA on Sunday will include a cookie giveaway to fans. Both promotions will occur after the doubles matches conclude.
