Karnes Earns Big Ten Gymnast of the Week Nod

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State men’s gymnast Josh Karnes was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week the conference offices announced Tuesday afternoon. The honor is the first of the season for the senior, and seventh of his career.

The Erie, Pennsylvania, native helped guide the Nittany Lions to a win over five-time reigning national champions No. 2 Stanford on Saturday afternoon. The senior posted two sticks in the contest, including on his high bar routine which, at a score of 13.600, earned the event title and secured the 321.350-314.450 win for the Nittany Lions.

Karnes ranks seventh in the country as a high bar gymnast. He averages a score of 13.560 across the season, and his season-high of 13.900 ranks the ninth-best score nationally this year.

Karnes and the rest of the Penn State men’s gymnastics travels to Illinois for the penultimate regular season weekend on Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m. in Huff Hall. The action will be streamed live via B1G+.
