UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams began the post season Saturday at Drew University for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals. Here, they competed against fencers from Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Duke, North Carolina, Drew, Steven's, Temple, NJIT, Haverford and Lafayette.
In men's epee, Mohammed Yassen came in second with Tingwei Xu in sixth. Hassan Sultan finished 30th and Zachary Suico finished 31st. In Women’s Epee, Allegra Cristofolletto came in second finish, Kateryna Chorniy placed fifth and Sophia Abashidze in 40th.
In men’s foil sophomore Tit Nam Cheng placed eighth, Caiden Cannon took ninth, Arwen Borowiak 10th and Spencer Burke 21st. On the women’s foil side, Nicole Capodicasa came in with a ninth-place finish, Eden De la Cruz in 16th, Thea Fernandes in 24th, and Ariel Rastep in 31st.
The saber squad featured a fourth-place finish for Neil Lilov with a sixth-place finish for Kamar Skeete. Carlos Fernando Chacon came in 22nd and Nicholaus Zielinski tied for 31st. In women’s saber, Eunyu Kim led the ladies with a second place finish. Aurora Colter finished 18th, Ola Strzalkowski 20th, Catherine Kim 24th and Emma Holmes 30th.
The NCAA selection committee will announce all NCAA Championship qualifiers on Tuesday, March 11 on NCAA.com. The NCAA Championship Tournament will be hosted by Penn State at the multi-sport facility from March 20-23.
