Traynor Named Top 25 Tewaaraton Award Nominee

The Tewaaraton Award is the most prestigious award in college lacrosse presented annually

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State men’s lacrosse’s Matt Traynor is announced as a top 25 nominee for the Tewaaraton Award as the foundation announced on Thursday afternoon. Traynor joins a group of 25 of the top men’s college lacrosse athletes across the country in contention for the award to be announced at the end of the 2025 campaign.

The Tewaaraton Award is presented annually to the most outstanding college lacrosse men’s and women’s player in the country. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Senior captain Traynor has led the Nittany Lions on offense throughout the 2025 campaign. Not only does he lead PSU in goals per game (3.22) and points per game (4.78) but he leads the Big Ten Conference in those categories as well. Traynor has achieved career milestones this season, surpassing the 100 career points and goals marks. With his 100th career goal in a road win at Michigan, Traynor became one of just 10 players in Penn State lacrosse history to record 100 goals throughout their career. He continues to move up on the list, currently sitting fifth all-time in career goals at Penn State.

In his most recent outing, the Downingtown, Pa. native matched career numbers, posting seven goals and eight points. Both of those numbers met his personal best marks while setting new career bests in Big Ten play.

Traynor and the rest of the Nittany Lions conclude the regular season on Friday, April 18 as they host Rutgers for their senior night.
