Jake Griffin records top-15 finish to highlight strong showing

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Penn State men’s golf team wrapped up a strong showing at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship Saturday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The Nittany Lions finished eighth in the 14-team field, finishing at 5-over, 857. Penn State shot a 288 in the opening round, 285 in the second and saved its best for last with a 284 in the third and final round.

Jake Griffin (73-68-66) led the Nittany Lions, finishing tied for 13th at 6-under, 207. His 5-under, 66, in the third round catapulted him 10 spots up the individual leaderboard.

Andres Barraza (68-73-74) finished tied for 32nd at 2-over, 215, while Alex Creamean (72-75-69) slotted right behind at tied for 37th at 3-over, 216.

Zach Smith (75-69-75) placed tied for 55th at 6-over, 219.  Will Preston (80-75-76) finished 79th at 18-over, 231.  

The Nittany Lions return to action next weekend as Penn State hosts the Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Penn State Blue Course Saturday and Sunday.
