UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Eight members of the Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team/Penn State Olympic Regional Training Center competed at the 2025 U23 National Championships and U20 World Team Trials this weekend. The two-day event was held in Geneva, Ohio, on Saturday and Sunday.
Three competitors wrestled in the U20 World Team Trials on Saturday with two earning spots on Team USA’s U20 squad with championship performances. Connor Mirasola won two straight matches in the best-of-three final series at 92 kg to earn a spot on the team while twin brother Cole Mirasola mirrored that performance up at 125 kg, also earning a spot on the U20 World Team. Joe Sealy competed at 74 kg and went 3-1 overall, placing third in the challenge bracket and fourth overall.
Five wrestlers took part in the U23 National Championship bracket, which began on Saturday and concluded Sunday afternoon. New member Rocco Welsh won the U23 national title at 86 kg. Welsh rolled through the competition, posting a 7-0 mark, including two wins in the best-of-three final series. Connor Pierce had a good run at 70 kg, going 5-3 overall and placing eighth.
Sam Beckett competed at 79 kg and went 4-2 overall while Dawson Bundy wrestled at 125 kg and posted a 3-2 mark. Ty Watson also competed at the event in the 74 kg bracket.
