UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Former Penn State field hockey standouts Phia Gladieux and Jenny Rizzo competed for Team USA as the U.S. Women’s National Team battled Ireland in the Cathy Bessant International Series against Ireland. The games, played in Charlotte, N.C., were contested last weekend.
The United States battled No. 11 Ireland to a 1-1 draw in game one. Team USA shutout out Ireland 4-0 the next day, riding a strong performance from Rizzo in the cage. Rizzo collected 11 saves and was named Player of the Match by USA Field Hockey. Gladieux played extensive minutes over the weekend for the American side.
The U.S. Women’s National Team will host New Zealand for another two game series in Charlotte starting the weekend of July 5.
