HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Penn State will once again be represented in this summer's The Basketball Tournament (TBT), the $1 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event broadcast live on FOX networks.
Organized by Nittany Lion alum John Harrar, the Happy Valley Hoopers are a third-year alumni team that will take their shot at the $1 million prize. The current roster includes Penn State alum Andrew Funk (2022-23), Dallion Johnson (2020-23), Greg Lee (2021-22), John Harrar (2017-22), Izaiah Brockington (2019-21), Myreon Jones (2018-21), Jamari Wheeler (2017-21), Trent Buttrick (2017-21), Curtis Jones (2019-20) and Mike Watkins (2016-20), with additional player announcements to come in the upcoming weeks.
The Happy Valley Hoopers, the top seed in their region, will play in the James Madison Regional at the Atlantic Union Bank Center from July 18-22. Happy Valley Hoopers will open TBT action against Raleigh 919 Legends, the No. 8 seed in the region, on Friday, July 18 at 3 p.m. The winner will face the winner of Founding Fathers (JMU alumni) and NXT ERA Elite on Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. The James Madison Regional championship game is set for Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m.
The winner of the James Madison Regional will play the winner of the West Virginia Regional in the quarterfinals on Monday, July 28, at 9 p.m. on FS2. The semifinals and $1 million winner-take-all championship game will be July 31 and Aug. 3.
The Happy Valley Hoopers look to continue last year’s success as the Penn State alumni squad won the Pittsburgh Regional last summer to advance to the TBT quarterfinals in just their second year competing in the tournament.
