Martin Named B1G Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State’s Kennedy Martin was named the Big Ten Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday after helping the second-ranked Nittany Lions post wins over No. 12 Creighton and No. 14 Kansas at the season-opening AVCA First Serve Showcase.

Making her debut for the Nittany Lions, Martin averaged 4.56 points/set over the two wins. She opened the season with 14 kills on .344 hitting in addition to nine digs, two blocks, and one ace in a 3-0 sweep over the Bluejays at Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena. The junior followed that with 18 kills, five digs, three blocks, and one ace in a five-set win over the Jayhawks at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Martin has now reached double-digit kills in each of the first 55 matches of her career.

Penn State plays two more ranked opponents when it travels to PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh for the State Farm Women’s Volleyball Showcase. The Nittany Lions play No. 13 Arizona State on Sunday at 5 p.m., and No. 25 TCU on Monday at 5 p.m. Both matches will air on FOX.
