UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s cross country rookie Isaac Oppermann has been named the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Oppermann made an impressive collegiate debut in Penn State’s season-opening sweep at the Dolan Duals. The Port Matilda, Pa. native finished third overall in the men’s 6K race, crossing the finish line in a time of 17:51.5. Oppermann’s strong finish helped the men’s team sweep the dual meet against Lock Haven.
Oppermann and the Nittany Lions return to action Friday when Penn State hosts the annual Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Penn State Blue & White Courses. The women’s 6K will begin at 10 a.m., while the men’s 5.2-mile race is slated for a 10:45 a.m. start.
