Women's Golf Hosts Nittany Lion Invitational on Sunday & Monday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's golf team is looking to regain their Nittany Lion Invitational Crown this weekend at the Penn State Blue Course.

The Invitational will be held Sunday and Monday with shotgun starts slated for 9 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., respectively. The layout for the week on the Blue Course will be a 6,363-yard, par-72.

TRIO NAMED B1G PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Sophomore classmates Jiratchaya Jiratthitinun and JMU transfer Hannah Rabb along with freshman Audrey Lam were honored by the Big Ten Conference earlier this fall as players to watch.
  • Jiratthitinun led the Nittany Lions with a 73.13 stroke average last season after competing in all 11 events as a freshman with three top-10 finishes and 14 rounds of even-par or better. Two weeks ago at the Cougar Classic, she opened with a 1-under, 70, and finished the week 5-over, 218, and in a tie for 49th.
  • Rabb paced the Dukes last season with a 75.52 stroke average competing in all 11 tournaments as a rookie and used a 5-under, 139, to capture the Puerto Rico Shootout individual championship. Over the summer she won the 2025 PA Women’s Amateur earning a spot at the US Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes back in August.
  • Lam, the 2025 Belgium Junior Open Champion, arrives in Happy Valley from Belgium and showed some promise in spurts at the Cougar Classic carding the lowest round of the week for the Nittany Lions with a 2-under, 69, during the second round finishing the week 11-over.

ABOUT THE NLI

  • The first-ever Nittany Lion Invitational was played in 1974 with this weekend marking the 26th consecutive NLI to be contested during the fall season.
  • Overall, the tournament has been held in the fall 35 times while taking place during the spring season on 13 different occasions with the last being in 1999.
  • Including the 2022 NLI, Penn State has captured 25 tournament crowns including seven of the last 13 and five of nine with a pair of runner-up finishes over that stretch as well.
  • Penn State has had 15 individual medalists with the last being Mathilde Delavallade in 2021.
  • Sarah Willis ‘22 holds the tournament record of 11-under (205) from her win in 2018 while Delavallade fell just one stroke shy during her 10-under (206) victory in 2021.
  • Penn State's 2018 final round score of 9-under, 279, is the second lowest 18-hole total in school history.
  • Princeton’s Catherine Rao earned medalist honors last season with a three-round total of 7-under, 211, leading the Tigers to the team title at 8-over, 872. The Tigers are not in the 2025 field to defend their title.

THE FIELD

  • This year’s field consists of the host Nittany Lions as well as 15 additional teams.
  • Akron, Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, Georgetown, Maryland, Navy, Penn, Quinnipiac, Rollins, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Towson, Albany and Yale.
  • Each school will start five golfers with the four lowest scores counting toward the team total. Three individuals from Penn State along with two individuals from Delaware and one each from Maryland, Penn, Yale and Bucknell round out the 89-player field.
  • The Nittany Lions will be paired with Maryland and Delaware for the first 36 holes on Sunday and will go off holes one through three with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State’s starting five will feature four of the five players who participated in the Cougar Classic led by Jiratthitinun, Lam and Rabb, while freshman classmates Lillian Guleserian and Mara King round out the starting five. Guleserian was Penn State’s top finisher down in South Carolina firing a 2-over, 215, to tie for 34th in the 96-player field while King is making her collegiate debut.
  • Senior Myranda Quinton and sophomore classmates Lauren Thompstone and Gwendolyn Powell will play the week as individuals.

After another week off, Penn State travels to a new destination this year making the trip south to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Mercedes Benz Collegiate on October 5-7.
