UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State women’s basketball announces a more permanent return to its former home, Rec Hall. The Lady Lions will play multiple games in Rec Hall throughout the 2025-26 with specific designations to be announced at a later date.

After making a 'Return to Rec Hall' once a year for the previous two seasons, Penn State will add more games to its schedule to be played inside its former home throughout the 2025-26 season. The historic venue that plays host to multiple of Penn State’s high caliber programs was the permanent home of the Lady Lions from 1979-96. The first women’s basketball game to be played inside Rec Hall was on March 24, 1976, a AIAW Tournament contest against Delta State. The team played off-and-on inside the building as an alternate venue until making the indefinite move over for the 1979-80 campaign.

Rec Hall holds a significant amount of Penn State women’s basketball history. Throughout the nearly two decades at their home court, the Lady Lions boasted four undefeated home seasons and a renowned sellout game against Iowa. This contest was the first nationally televised PSU basketball game in Rec Hall as the team played in front of a sellout crowd of 7,264 on Feb. 6 1994 for their “Pack the Track” game.

Penn State made its switch over to the Bryce Jordan Center in 1996 after almost 20 years playing in Rec Hall. Since the move to the Jordan Center, the team has hosted two “Return to Rec” games in conjunction with the men’s basketball program, with back-to-back games in 2024 and 2025.

The Lady Lions hold an impressive 203-34 (.857) record throughout their time competing in their former home on Curtain Road. Overall, Penn State’s status in the arena sits at 203-36 (.849) after suffering a loss to 14th-ranked Maryland last season.

The Blue & White have also experienced outstanding achievement against Big Ten opponents in games played in Rec as a part of the conference, holding a 28-0 record over B1G foes while permanently housed on Curtain Road. Overall, PSU is 28-2 in games played in Rec Hall since joining the Big Ten, with losses coming in recent years in the “Return to Rec” contests.

The Lady Lions are set to utilize Rec Hall as their home arena for multiple games throughout the 2025-26 campaign with specific matchups to be announced at a later date.
