UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State’s Kennedy Martin was named the Big Ten Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday, earning the award for the third time this season. The junior right side put up huge numbers while leading the 19th-ranked Nittany Lions to wins over No. 7 Wisconsin and Northwestern last week.
Martin hit .438 while averaging 7.36 points, 6.71 kills, 2.14 digs, and 0.71 blocks per set over the two Big Ten wins. She now leads the conference and ranks second nationally in points/set (5.97) and leads the conference and ranks fourth nationally in kills/set (5.24).
Penn State started the weekend with a sweep over the seventh-ranked Badgers on Friday at Rec Hall. Martin led the way, hitting .474 with 23 kills, eight digs, three blocks, and two aces. She started fast with 10 kills on .692 hitting and two aces in the first set alone.
Martin followed the big performance over Wisconsin with another dominant showing in a four-set win over Northwestern. The junior hit .412 with 24 kills, seven digs, and two blocks as the Nittany Lions beat the Wildcats for their third-straight win.
Martin has totaled 20+ kills eight times this season, including each of the past three matches.
Penn State, now ranked No. 17 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, continues Big Ten play with matches at Washington on Friday and at Oregon on Saturday.
