Women's Ice Hockey Selected For Two AHA Weekly Awards

Matilde Fantin was named Forward of the Week while Danica Maynard was named Defenseman of the Week.

BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America named Penn State women’s ice hockey freshman Matilde Fantin Forward of the Week and freshman Danica Maynard Defenseman of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Fantin paced all skaters for the Nittany Lions this weekend, scoring five points in two wins over Delaware. She tallied an assist in Friday’s 5-0 win over the Blue Hens to begin conference play before posting a career-high four points on Saturday afternoon. She had her first multiple goal and multiple assist game of her career with two of each. Fantin also led all Nittany Lions in shots on goal with 14 in the series.

 

Danica DOTW 10

Danica Maynard led all defenders on the Nittany Lions this weekend in points, notching four. In Penn State’s 7-0 win in game two over the Blue Hens on Saturday afternoon, Maynard scored the first goal of her collegiate career before adding another and two assists. She now leads the Nittany Lions in points on the season with nine, sitting tied for fifth nationally and leads the AHA. Maynard is also now the first Nittany Lion to win AHA Defenseman of the Week as a freshman.  

Fantin, Maynard, and the Nittany Lions are back home this weekend, hosting Mercyhurst for a two-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m. at Pegula Ice Arena. The game will be streamed on B1G+.
