Women's Ice Hockey Trio Earns AHA Weekly Awards

Tessa Janecke, Danica Maynard, and Katie DeSa each earned a weekly award after a home sweep.

BOSTON – Atlantic Hockey America named three Penn State women’s ice hockey players for awards on Tuesday afternoon. Tessa Janecke was named the Forward of the Week, Danica Maynard was named Defenseman of the Week, and Katie DeSa received the Goaltender of the Week award.

Tessa Janecke returned to the Nittany Lion lineup this past weekend without missing a beat, tallying a goal and an assist in each game to help Penn State skate by No. 15 Mercyhurst. The senior won 20 of her 29 faceoffs while also posting a +3 rating and blocking four shots. She now has won the award nine times, the most of any Nittany Lion in program history.

Danica Maynard now has won back-to-back AHA Defenseman of the Week awards, following last week’s performance with another four-point weekend. She had two assists and scored the third goal of the 3-0 Nittany Lion win over Mercyhurst on Friday before adding an assist on Saturday. She finished the weekend with a +6 rating and is currently tied for the national lead in plus/minus at +17. She also is tied for the national lead among defenders in points at 13.

Katie DeSa won both games in goal for the Nittany Lions this past weekend, allowing only one goal on 35 shots against. She posted a .971 save percentage, bringing her season total to .935. DeSa also recorded her third shutout of the season, tying her for second nationally and bringing her career total to 16.
