BURLINGTON, Vt. – The No. 6/7 Nittany Lions stayed unbeaten on the season after defeating Vermont 3-1 on Friday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just over the halfway point of the first period, Leah Stecker went back to retrieve a puck and made a stretch pass to Grace Outwater who picked it up and scored.
- With two minutes left in the first period, Grace Outwater passed it to Mikah Keller as she entered the zone who dropped it for Maddy Christian, and she put the puck just under the crossbar to make it 2-0.
- On the power play to start the second period, Tessa Janecke received a pass from Kendall Butze on the right offensive dot and shot top corner to push the Nittany Lion lead.
- With six minutes to go in the second period, Vermont’s Kaylee Lewis picked up a loose puck and went down on a breakaway, scoring on Katie DeSa to make it 3-1 Nittany Lions.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 10 saves including a flurry late in the third period to move to 3-0 in goal this season.
- Ellie Simmons made 21 saves, including nine in the third period, to keep the Catamounts in striking distance.
STATS AND NOTES
- Grace Outwater, Tessa Janecke, Maddy Christian, and Mikah Keller each have at least a point in each game so far this season.
- Janecke is currently on a four-game point streak dating back to last season.
- Outwater registered her first multi-point game of the season and seventh of her career.
- She is tied for the team-lead in points with Janecke at four.
- The Nittany Lions outshot Vermont 24-11, their second time this season holding their opponent to 15 shots or less.
- Maddy Christian scored her first goal of the season and 29th of her career.
