Christian Scores Twice in Second Shutout Victory at Robert Morris

Katie DeSa posts back-to-back shutouts on the road.

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. –  The Nittany Lions cruised to a 4-0 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday evening after getting two first period goals from senior Maddy Christian.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Two and half minutes into the game, Grace Outwater forced a turnover in the offensive zone and Mikah Keller received her pass before finding Maddy Christian alone in the slot who shot and scored.
  • With over five minutes left in the first, Leah Stecker took a slapshot that missed and bounded off the end boards to Maddy Christian on the right post and she put it in the open net.
  • On the power play in the second period, Maddy Christian passed it to Sophie Morrow at the point and she took a shot through traffic that found its way through for her second goal of the season.
  • 19 seconds later Mya Vaslet went down on a 2-on-1 with Nicole Hall and took a shot and Hall cleaned up the rebound to score. 

GOALTENDERS

  • Senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 16 saves for her second straight shutout and fifth of the season. She now has 18 career shutouts.
  • Robert Morris goaltender Lucy Phillips made a season-high 42 saves.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Maddy Christian had her second multi-goal game of the season and fourth of her career.
  • She is now tied for third on the Nittany Lions in goals and is tied for fourth nationally in plus minus with a +18.
  • Christian is also first nationally in game-winning goals as her first period goal was enough for PSU.
  • Sophie Morrow had a goal and an assist for the second time this season, bringing her point total to six.
  • Katie DeSa has gone 169:17 minutes without allowing a goal, shutting out RMU in back-to-back games.
  • She is now tied for the national lead in shutouts with five after having nine a season ago.
  • Leah Stecker had two assists for the second time this season and third in her career.

UP NEXT

  • Penn State will have a weekend off next weekend, before returning to Pegula Ice Arena to host Syracuse for a series beginning Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
