BOSTON – The Atlantic Hockey Association named Penn State women’s ice hockey seniors, Katelyn Roberts and Kendall Butze, for weekly conference awards on Tuesday afternoon. Roberts was named the Forward of the Week for the first time in her career and Butze garnered her second career Defenseman of the Week award.
Katelyn Roberts had a career high six points against the Syracuse Orange this weekend at Pegula Ice Arena. The forward started the scoring for the Nittany Lions, breaking the scoreless tie in Friday’s game just 24 seconds in. She added one more assist in PSU’s 7-0 win on Friday before having a career day on Saturday afternoon. In Penn State’s 11-2 record-tying win over Syracuse, Roberts had a career-high four points. She once again scored PSU’s opening goal, while adding another that would end up being the game-winner and two assists.
Kendall Butze had her highest scoring weekend of the season and second highest of her career while closing in on two of the program’s defensive scoring records. She notched two assists in Friday’s game, including on Roberts’ first goal which would stand as the game-winner. On Saturday afternoon, she added three more assists for just the second three-assist game of her career and ninth multi-assist game. Butze also finished the weekend with a team-high +5 on ice rating.
Roberts, Butze, and the Nittany Lions are on the road this weekend, traveling to RIT to end their first half of conference play. They will play the Tigers at 6 p.m. on Friday evening for game one while puck drop for game two is slated for 3 p.m.
