PSU completes a perfect first half of conference play, going 12-0-0 against AHA opponents

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Defender Danica Maynard scored twice to lead the Nittany Lions over RIT 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Gene Polisseni Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just over two minutes into the game, Danica Maynard was left alone in the offensive zone and she made a move towards the net before finishing the play with her first goal of the game.
  • Five minutes later, Abby Stonehouse found Tessa Janecke in the middle of the slot and fired it home to make it 2-0 PSU.
  • Four minutes later, RIT’s Jaidan Fahrny fired home a one-timer from the slot to bring RIT within one goal.
  • Fahrny followed that up later in the period with another to tie the game at two, scoring on a tip-in in front with just over two minutes to play in the opening frame.
  • Halfway through the second period, Danica Maynard found Katelyn Roberts streaking through the neutral zone and she went in on a rush to the offensive zone, shooting five-hole and scoring to retake a 3-2 lead.
  • After a flurry of shots on goal against the Nittany Lions, RIT’s Brac Kelley hammered home a loose puck to tie the game at three with just over five minutes to play in the middle frame.

  • Freshman goaltender Maddy Campbell started the game for the Nittany Lions, allowing two goals in the first period.
  • Katie DeSa came in the second period, making 13 saves over the last 40 minutes with one goal against to secure the win for PSU.
  • RIT goaltender Sophia Bellina made 34 saves in the loss.
