GLOUCESTER, Mass. – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey bounced back from its first loss of the season with four unanswered goals to defeat No. 7 Northeastern 4-1 at Dorothy Talbot Skating Rink on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Six minutes into the first period, Northeastern’s Lily Shannon received a pass and shot and scored from the slot to make it 1-0 Northeastern.
- Over three minutes into the second period, Taylor Lum tied the game at one by punching in a loose puck from a rebound in front.
- With 8:40 remaining in the second period, Tessa Janecke found Katelyn Roberts who shot the puck over Northeastern’s Lisa Jonsson’s shoulder to give PSU a 2-1 lead.
- Grace Outwater took a shot on an offensive zone rush with 14:05 to go in the second and Maddy Christian buried the rebound to push the lead.
- With over five minutes remaining, Grace Outwater took a shot and Mikah Keller knocked in the rebound to extend the lead to 4-1.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goaltender Katie DeSa made a season-high 29 saves in the win to move to 15-1-0 on the season.
- Northeastern goaltender Lisa Jonsson made 27 saves in the loss.
STATS AND NOTES
- Taylor Lum scored her second goal as a Nittany Lion and 24th of her career.
- Katelyn Roberts scored her 11th goal of the season and 38th of her career.
- She is now tied with Amy Petersen ’17 for seventh on the program’s all-time goal list.
- Roberts also now has 10 points in her last six games.
- Tessa Janecke had two assists for her 22nd career multi-assist game, which leads PSU.
- Janecke is now tied for fifth nationally in assists at 16.
- Mya Vaslet dished an assist for her third point in her last four games.
- Grace Outwater extended her team-leading point streak to eight games with her assist on Maddy Christian’s goal.
- Katie DeSa notched her 15th win of the season, leading all goaltenders nationally.
- Mikah Keller has an assist in three straight games.
- She also had the third multi-point game of her career.
