Two Nittany Lions Earn Monthly AHA Awards

Tessa Janecke and Katie DeSa each earned their second monthly awards of the season.

BOSTON – Penn State women’s ice hockey seniors Tessa Janecke and Katie DeSa each won an Atlantic Hockey America monthly award for their respective positions, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Tessa Janecke was named the league’s Forward of the Month while Katie DeSa won the Goaltender of the Month award for November. Both Nittany Lions won the September/October monthly award for their position to begin the season.

Janecke received her eighth career Forward of the Month after leading Penn State in points in the month of November. The forward had 11 points on three goals and eight assists. Her +8 on ice rating was third on the squad while also scoring one power play goal. She reached the 100-assist milestone for her career in the month of November while also tying the program’s all-time goal record at 74. Janecke also won 104 of 139 faceoffs for a 74.8 percent win rate, leading the Nittany Lions and the conference.

Katie DeSa played in all seven of PSU’s games this month, going 6-1 to improve her record to 15-1-0 this season. She posted a .914 save percentage and 1.58 goals against average. She spent 379:39 in net, only allowing 10 goals in the month on The Pawcatuck, Conn. native also had back-to-back shutouts to begin the month over Robert Morris and Syracuse. During the month, DeSa became the second goaltender in the program’s history to reach 50 career wins. She leads the AHA in nearly every goaltending category entering the mid-season break.

Janecke, DeSa and the Nittany Lions are off for the next 29 days and will return to the ice on December 30th, hosting No. 8/6 Cornell at Pegula Ice Arena at 6 p.m. with the game streaming on Big Ten Plus.
