UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Head coach Guy Gadowsky and the Penn State hockey team announced that senior Ben Schoen (Maumee, Ohio) and junior Reese Laubach (San Jose, Calif.) will serve as additional alternate captains for the remainder of the 2025-26 season on Friday morning.
Schoen and Laubach join fellow alternate captain Jarod Crespo (Seven Lakes, N.C.) along with captain Dane Dowiak (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who were announced prior to the season.
Schoen is second on the team in career games played with 114 entering the second half of the season behind only Crespo’s 120. Schoen has 62 points in those 114 games on 18 goals and 44 assists with two goals and three assists for five points skating in all 16 games so far this season.
The Maumee, Ohio native had a career year as a junior with seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 37 games last season after returning from a 20-month hiatus from a near career-ending injury suffered during his sophomore season in January 2023.
Laubach also has 62 career points on 29 goals and 33 assists in 86 games played with four goals and six assists for 10 points in 16 games so far this season. Laubach ranks fifth on the team in scoring entering the second semester as he too is following up a career-year from 2024-25 which saw him register 30 points on 15 goals and 15 assists as a sophomore.
Penn State won’t play again until the calendar flips to 2026 when they face RIT in a home-and-home series on January 3-4.
