UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s and women’s fencing teams will compete in their last competition in 2025 at the Carla-Mae Richards Invitational at Brandeis University on Sunday, December 7. Competition for Penn State will begin at 9 a.m. against Haverford.
Fencing saber on the men’s side will be Neil Lilov, Carlos Fernando Chacon and Tyson Deck. In their last competition at the Ohio State Invitational, Lilov went undefeated, 3-0, against Wayne State and Cleveland State, along with Chacon. Deck earned victories against Wayne State and Cleveland State as well.
Set to fence saber, Amelia Baker, Mia Novick, Euynu Kim and Eve Scott will represent the women’s team. At the Ohio State Invitational, Kim went undefeated, 3-0, against two ranked opponents: No. 1 / 2 Notre Dame and No. 5 Northwestern. The rest of the women’s saber squad earned victories throughout both days.
Representing the men’s epee team will be Vasil Ivakimov, Sebastian Bonomo, Zachary Suico and Joshua Yavorovski. Yavorovski will make his season debut in Boston on Sunday. Ivakimov will continue a strong start to his season after competing in both the Nikki Franke Invitational at Temple and Ohio State.
Yuna Tamura, Lena Gyenes, Sophia Abashidze and Allegra Cristofoletto will fence epee for the women’s team. Tamura is having a strong start to her freshman collegiate season, including going 3-0 against No. 3 Harvard and the Air Force in Columbus.
Matthew Gonzalez, Spencer Burke, Alessio Fukuda, Julian Chin and Dusan Zeljkovic will represent the men’s foil team. The foil squad earned victories against No. 6 / 5 Ohio State and went undefeated against Wayne State and Cleveland State.
Fencing foil on the women’s side is Clarissa Tan, Thea Fernandes, Eden De La Cruz, Emma Holmes and Samantha Catantan. Catantan will make her season debut for the Nittany Lions after competing at the International Schermtoernooi in Amsterdam in September. Women’s foil earned victories against No. 6 /5 Ohio State and the Air Force last time out.
Penn State will take on Haverford, Brandeis, Boston College, Brown, Lawrence, Tufts, Wheaton, Wellesley and SJU on Sunday in Boston, Mass.
