ERIE, Pa. – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey team dropped their first conference game of the season, falling 4-3 in overtime at Mercyhurst.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early in the second period, Tessa Janecke forced a turnover in the neutral zone and carried it into the offensive zone before passing it ahead to Abby Stonehouse who finished at crease to put PSU up 1-0.
  • Seven minutes later Mercyhurst’s Lolacher pushed in a rebound on the power play.
  • 1:09 later, Mikah Keller took a shot from the high slot that was deflected in for a goal by Taylor Lum to retake the lead.
  • Under four minutes later, Mercyhurst’s Lolacher found the back of the net again on the power play.
  • With just over five minutes to play Tessa Janecke took a shot from the corner that banked off Mercyhurst’s Luggin to give PSU a 3-2 lead.
  • Mercyhurst would tie the game again on the power play with Julia Perjus stuffing a rebound home.
  • With 13 second left in overtime, Mercyhurst’s Payten Evans got alone in the slot and beat Maddy Campbell to win it for the Lakers.
