CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Penn State swim team kicked off its 2026 campaign with an away meet against the University of Virginia. Both teams fell to the Cavaliers in Charlottesville.
This was the team’s first meet following a month-long hiatus for the Nittany Lions, as they last competed in the Ohio State Invitational.

The effort was led by Mariano Lazzerini’s victory in the 200 breast, posting a 1:52.52. Vicente Villanueva followed with a 1:56.54 time, good for second place in the event.
The relay team of Cooper Morley, Lazzerini, Matthew Bittner and Tylor Kim placed second in the 400 medley relay, swimming a 3:04.34, just .29 seconds shy of first place. The same team also placed second in the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:20.58.

Morgan Moore earned a second-place finish in the 500 free, with a 4:49.14. Julia Barto placed fourth in the same event, swimming a 5:57.54.
Catherine Meisner placed third in the 200 free, boasting a 1:48.11 time. Moore followed with a fifth-place finish with a 1:50.04 swim.
Margaret Markvardt finished fifth in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:00.46. Julia Meisner placed fourth in the 200 fly with a 2:01.72 swim.
