Underhill Takes Home B1G Honors in Week One of the 2026 Season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s gymnastics senior Matt Underhill earns his first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week nod following the Nittany Lions’ 311.300-297.600 win over Army.

In the meet, Underhill put up a hat trick, winning three separate event titles. His floor routine, the opening act for PSU-s 2026 campaign, posted a 13.350. He went on to put up a 13.750 on rings with a stick bonus, and a 14.300 on vault, also sticking the landing. Those two scores ranked second-best nationally in the opening week of gymnastics.

Underhill and the rest of his teammates are off to West Point, New York, this weekend when the team competes in the 2026 West Point Open on Friday, January 16. Qualifiers from Friday night will advance to the individual session on Saturday, January 17 for a chance to win some hardware.
