Men’s Tennis Opens Spring Season With Home Doubleheader Saturday

Nittany Lions take on Cleveland State at 11 a.m. and Fordham at 4 p.m.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team is set to open the spring season Saturday at the Indoor Tennis Center when the Nittany Lions host Cleveland State at 11 a.m. and Fordham at 4 p.m.  

 

THE NITTANY LIONS 

 

The Nittany Lions are entering their second season under head coach Bruce LipkaReiya Hattori, David Lindsay, and Marcus Schoeman are returning for their second season with Penn State.  

 

Newcomers Jaden Brady, Kyle Chesman, Christos Glavas, Emil Matikainen, Eyal Shyovitz, and Michael Wright will be competing in their first spring season on the team. 

 

The team competed in two fall tournaments in the fall of 2025. Penn State hosted the Holmes Cathrall Memorial Invitational, the first home fall tournament in 17 years, walking away with five doubles and eight singles victories. The Nittany Lions then moved on to the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, finishing with eight singles wins and two doubles wins. 

 

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

 

Cleveland State and Fordham will both be opening their spring seasons Saturday. The Nittany Lions defeated Cleveland State 4-3 in their last meeting in 2024, bringing their all-time record against the Vikings to 6-0. Penn State took down Fordham 7-0 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs last season. 

 

UP NEXT 

 

Penn State remains home next weekend for another doubleheader on Saturday, January 24. The Nittany Lions will play Temple at 10 a.m. and Saint Francis at 3 p.m.
