UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track and field senior Hayley Kitching was named the Big Ten’s Co-Track Athlete of the Week for her record-breaking performance in the women’s 1000-meter on Saturday afternoon at the Nittany Lion Challenge.
Her time of 2:38.45 set a new collegiate record in the event, breaking the record previously set by another Nittany Lion, Danae Rivers in 2019. Kitching won the event for the Nittany Lions while also setting the new Australian record.
Kitching now has several Penn State school records in the middle distance, owning the 600-meter, 800-meter, and now 1000-meter records for PSU. The senior and the rest of the Nittany Lion squad are headed to the Penn 10 Team Elite meet on Saturday at the Ott Center for Track & Field in Philadelphia, hosted by UPenn.
