Jeff Kampersal Reaches 500th Career Win in Shutout over Delaware

He becomes the fifth head coach in Division 1 women's ice hockey history to reach the milestone.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey team recorded their 10th home win of the season with a 5-0 win over Delaware at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday evening.

Head Coach Jeff Kampersal won his 500th career game as a head coach, becoming the fifth women’s ice hockey head coach to reach the milestone.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just over two minutes into the second period, Mikah Keller picked up a loose puck against the boards and threw it into the slot where Grace Outwater was who pushed it on net to give PSU a 1-0 lead.
  • With under seven minutes to go in the middle frame Tessa Janecke made a great play to keep the puck in the zone and passed it to Sophie Morrow who set up Kendall Butze for a shot from the point that found its way to the net.
  • Four minutes later, Danica Maynard was stopped on a breakaway but Maddy Christian shot it and created another rebound that Mikah Keller eventually hammered home to extend the lead to three.
  • 90 seconds later, Leah Stecker made a stretch pass to Grace Outwater who carried the puck into the zone, and she made a cross-crease pass to Maddy Christian who roofed it for the Nittany Lions fourth goal of the game.
  • A little over halfway through the third period, Mya Vaslet cycled through the top of the offensive zone and passed it to Taya MacDonald who skated to the top of the circle and scored in the top left corner.

  • Penn State freshman goaltender Maddy Campbell made seven saves in the win.
