UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The men’s tennis team completed its second doubleheader of the season at home against Temple and Saint Francis. The Nittany Lions earned a victory over the Owls in a 4-1 match in the morning and swept Saint Francis in the afternoon with a 7-0 win.
The Nittany Lions had another impressive showing as each player achieved at least one victory during the doubleheader. Jaden Brady earned a singles win in his first spring match as a Nittany Lion, defeating Beau Welker from Saint Francis. The Nittany Lions are now 4-0.
TEMPLE
Doubles
Emil Matikainen and Eyal Shyovitz took down Alberto Blumenschein and Oliver Aguilar 6-3 on court three.
On court two, Reiya Hattori and Marcus Schoeman defeated Aayush Bhat and Erden Er in a 6-2 showdown, earning Penn State the doubles point.
David Lindsay and Michael Wright were dominating Lance Cochrane and Maj Najvirt Kolaric 5-2, but their match went unfinished.
Singles
Lindsay swiftly took down Cochrane on court four in a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Wright fought against Najvirt Kolaric and won 6-2, 6-3.
On court three, Hattori won set one 6-1 and was winning set two 4-3 against Aguilar, but retired the match due to injury, earning Temple a point.
Schoeman earned Penn State its fourth and final point to win the match against Matteo Crespi 6-4, 6-3 on court two.
Shyovitz began his match against Er, but the match was abandoned at 2-2. Matikainen’s match against Blumenschein went unfinished at 0-0, since Penn State had already scored the four points needed to defeat Temple.
SAINT FRANCIS
Doubles
Shyovitz and Matikainen had a quick victory against Noah Potts and Jonah Ng, winning 6-1 on court two.
Kyle Chesman and Christos Glavas took down Beau Welker and Blake Lorenzo on court three in a 6-2 battle and won the singles point for the Nittany Lions.
Lindsay and Wright played out their match against Kevin Titus Suresh and Gregory Troyan. In the heated battle, the Nittany Lions came out on top with a 7-5 win.
Singles
Matikainen put an end to his match against Mario Beckles, winning 6-1, 6-0 and earning Penn State its first singles point.
On court one, Wright won 6-3, 6-1 against Suresh.
Shyovitz defeated Ng on court three and ended with a 6-1, 6-3 score.
Brady ended his match against Welker in a 6-3, 6-3 showing on court four.
Schoeman shut down Troyan on court three in a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
On court one, Lindsay faced off against Lorenzo and came out on top with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
