PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Penn State track & field competed well in their first event on the road in 2026 with Nick Sloff’s record-breaking performance in the men’s 3000-meter highlighting the event.
The sophomore ran a 7:48.55 to win the event which sets a new Penn State school record, breaking a decade-old mark. His time is also now tenth in all Division 1 this season.
Earlier in the day, Hannah Riolo cleared 5-9.26 (1.76m) to move into a tie at the ninth-place in program history with Gwen Cudmore. Ajani Dwyer had another fast day on the track, moving into second place on Penn State’s all-time list in the 200-meter, running a 20.52.
Alex Pancoast also stepped up to the challenge, beating her personal best in women’s weight throw with a toss of 62-4.0 (19.61). That performance was good to move Pancoast up two spots in the program top-10, now sitting at seventh.
EVENT SUMMARY
Along with Alex Pancoast’s top-10 mark in the women’s weight throw, Gabby Cope finished close behind, taking second with a throw of 59-11.00 (18.26).
Penn State saw success in the men’s long jump early in the meet. Joe White took third in the event with a jump of 23-1.25 (7.04). In the men’s 3000-meter, Logan Strawser ran an 8:08.84, good for first place in the event and a PR under his belt.
In the men’s weight throw Collin Burkhart and Sam Engebretson went first and second. Burkhart took the top spot with a throw of 66-5.75 (20.26) while Engebretson threw a 63-4.75 (19.32), good for second. Tristan McGarrah then put together a strong performance in the men’s pole vault with a 16-6.50 (5.04) to come in second in the event.
In the women’s shot put, Skye Petrie-Cameron and Sasha Garnett came in third and fourth, respectively. Petrie-Cameron set a new personal best at 51-1.50 (15.58) while Garnett also set a new personal best at 49-1.50 (14.97).
Elizabeth Schreiber had a successful day in the triple jump winning the event with a 41-11.5 (12.79). In the men’s shot put, Brady Mider set a new PR at 55-.75 (16.78m), coming in second while Sam Engebretson came in third with a throw of 54-11.5 (16.78m(.
