Women's Golf Opens Spring Season at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla.  – Following a training trip to Georgia last weekend, the Penn State women's golf team will head down to the Sunshine State for the UCF Challenge presented by PDI, beginning on Sunday morning in Orlando. The three-day event will run through Tuesday afternoon.

This marks the ninth-straight season Penn State has opened its spring slate at this event which takes place the 6,392-yard, Par-72, Eagle Creek Golf Club that goes out in 36 and comes in at 36.
 
Sunday and Monday will feature split tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday’s final round will be an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.

OPPONENTS

  • Nebraska joins Penn State as the two Big Ten squads in the 16-team field.
  • The host Knights are then joined by Abiline Christian, Auburn, Baylor, East Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Kent State, Mississippi State, North Illinois, Old Dominion, South Alabama, UNC Charlotte, North Florida and South Florida to round out the field.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State’s lineup remains relatively consistent from the fall season as freshman classmates Mara King, Lillian Guleserian and Audrey Lam join sophomores Hannah Rabb and Yaya Jiratthitinun in the starting five with senior Myranda Quinton competing as an individual.
  • Lam paced the team in the fall registering a 71.92 stroke average nearly a full shot better than King’s 72.56 while Rabb (73.00), Jiratthitinun (73.67) and Guleserian (74.00) also turned in solid fall season’s.
  • Lam also had a pair of top-10 finishes on the season and the lone top-5 at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
  • Penn State had a successful fall slate racking up three-straight top-three finishing to close the fall including a pair of victories at the Nittany Lion Invitational and last time out at the Evie Odom Invitational back in October.

NEXT UP

Penn State has the next month off before returning to action with the Westbrook Invitational hosted by Wisconsin in Peroia, Arizona on February 22-23.
