COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey team lost its second-straight game for the first time this season, falling 4-1 at Ohio State.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With just over seven minutes to go in the first period and on the power play, Ohio State’s Kaia Malachino took a shot through traffic that found its way past Maddy Campbell to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead.
  • Just over two minutes later and on the power play, the Buckeyes made two passes to set up Sloane Matthews in front of the net and buried it to push their lead.
  • Tessa Janecke would get one back after intercepting a breakout pass during 4-on-4 play at the 17-minute mark of the first period.
  • 1:14 later, Ohio State’s Mira Jungaker was left alone in the slot and she fired a shot past Campbell to push the lead back to two for the Buckeyes.
  • Just over the halfway mark of the second period, Ohio State’s Jocelyn Amos found an opening in the high slot and shot and scored to extend the lead to three.

GOALTENDERS

  • Freshman goaltender Maddy Campbell made a career high 36 saves despite allowing four goals.
  • Ohio State goaltender Hailey Macleod made 20 saves in the win.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Tessa Janecke scored the 75th goal of her career, taking over the number one spot on the program’s career goal list.
  • Janecke now owns both the career goal and career assist (106) records for Penn State’s women’s ice hockey program.
  • She also brings herself to a tie for fourth among active players with Wisconsin’s Laila Edwards at quarter century mark.
