Men’s Tennis Set for Saturday Doubleheader vs. Saint Joseph’s and Mount St. Mary’s

First serve set for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Indoor Tennis Center

 UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team is preparing to play its third-straight home doubleheader on Saturday, January 31. The Nittany Lions will face Saint Joseph’s at 10 a.m. and Mount St. Mary’s at 3 p.m.  

 

 

THE NITTANY LIONS 

 

Penn State is 4-0 in the spring season and completed another successful weekend at home last week. The Nittany Lions defeated Temple 4-1 and had a clean sweep of Saint Francis, 7-0. Doubles team Emil Matikainen and Eyal Shyovitz went 2-0 and were the first doubles team to finish in both matches. David Lindsay, Marcus Schoeman, and Michael Wright all achieved a singles win in each match. 

 

 

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

 

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks currently have a 2-4 record on the season. The Nittany Lions and Hawks have met twice before, with Penn State holding a 2-0 edge. The teams were slated to meet last season, but the match was canceled due to impending weather.  

 

Mount St. Mary’s is currently 0-1 on the season. The Nittany Lions own a 4-0 all-time record against the Mount. Penn State defeated Mount St. Mary’s 7-0 in the most recent meeting last season.  

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

 

Due to the men’s hockey game at Beaver Stadium, fans attending the tennis matches can find available parking only in the Eisenhower Parking Deck.

The team travels to Lynchburg, Va., to take on William & Mary on Saturday, February 7, time tba, and Liberty on Sunday, February 8, at 12 p.m.
